William L. "Bill" Perkins age 72 of Cherry Hill passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, surrounded by family. Born on February 5, 1948 in Matewan, West Virginia, he was a lifetime resident of Maple Shade and Cherry Hill. Bill proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. His heroics were highlighted in the book, Orphans of Honor. He went on to a career with the US Postal Service wherein he retired as acting Post Master. Bill was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, the Maple Shade VFW and the American Legion in Wildwood. He was heavily involved in coaching Maple Shade's CYO baseball and the township's football programs, exemplifying one of his great passions of helping Maple Shade's youth athletes. Bill was a graduate of Burlington County College. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoyed vacations, golfing, fishing and spending time with his loving family. His greatest joy was the companionship of his beloved wife, Jeanette.
Bill was the devoted husband of 52 years to Jeanette Perkins (nee Renninger), dear father of William (Karen) Perkins, Janine (Kevin) Vallen, and Robert (Roseann) Perkins, cherished grandfather of Jessica, Austin, Erika, Brett, Nicole, Ryan, Sean and Marc, loving brother of the late Charles, Curtis (Barbara), Doug (Linda), James, Brenda (James), Mabel Estep, Randall, Betty Keller (Al) and Ronnie (Debbie), survived by his sisters and brothers Linda (the late Arley) Smith, Danny (Judy) Perkins, Sue (Richard) Sierz, Keith (Annette) Perkins, Barbara (Don) Kennedy, Sheila (John) McDonald, brother-in-law of Joanne Renninger, also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and visitation with his family on Monday, February 24th, 10 am-12 noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 E. Main Street, Maple Shade. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the visitation at 12 noon. Interment with Military Honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
