Robert James Tartaglia of Maple Shade, NJ, passed peacefully at the age of 84 on December 24, 2024, surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Constance Tartaglia (nee Minnick). Dear father of Carmella (Robert) Bennett, Katherine Tartaglia, John Tartaglia and Mary (Garrett) Cullen; step-father of Eliza (Jon) Lewis. Loving grandfather of Theresa (Daniel) O’Brien, Anthony (Stacey) Tartaglia, Austin Balzrette, Jamie Bennett, Carolyn (Jake Cader) Bennett, Jack Cullen, Lily Cullen, and Tierney Cullen. Dear great-grandfather of Jack, William, Nathan, Dominic, and Bennett.
Robert, known as Bob by most, was an accomplished pianist, musical director, vocal coach, and conductor. His ability to play anything perfectly by ear was astonishing. Robert was a member of the American Federation of Musicians, having played for the likes of Carol Burnett, Lorna Luft, Walter Charles, Vice President Al Gore, numerous on- and off-Broadway shows, and countless other esteemed venues and individuals. Though he could play anything, his love of classical music and opera was known by all.
As the unofficial “Mayor of Maple Shade,” Robert’s charisma and charm were well-known throughout the town. Always with a smile and a joke, a warm heart, and generous spirit, he will be profoundly missed. He was a Fourth Degree member of the John Tatem Assembly and a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 5714. He was also an active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where he could often be found playing piano for celebratory Masses. Robert worked diligently to raise awareness and funds to help others, reflecting his love and dedication to both his church and community.
When not playing music, Robert enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought him immense joy throughout his life. He loved traveling with his beloved wife Coni, cooking, playing pinochle and poker, fishing, and boating. Gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren especially during Phillies games, were among his greatest pleasures. Robert’s enthusiasm for life extended to his many passions and the people he loved.
To his family, he was known as Husband, Dad, Pop Pop, and Bisnono. He is loved beyond measure and will be missed greatly.
