Marie Catherine Newman (nee Bradley) of Maple Shade passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 22, 2023, surrounded by her loving family after a prolonged illness. She was 81 years old. Her departure to join the Lord and Blessed Mother was followed by a beautiful sunrise which true to form for Marie, Mom and Grammy was her sign to let her family know that she was finally at peace.
Marie was born on January 9th, 1942 to loving parents Bernard P. Bradley and Beulah E. Bradley (Gilbert) in Mount Holly, New Jersey. She grew up in Maple Shade along with her sister, Beulah (Boo), and brother, Bernard (Bern). She also enjoyed her shared time at her homes in Palm City, Florida and Mystic Islands, New Jersey.
Marie’s primary dedication in life was to her family. She was married to her devoted husband Eugene for 62 years after meeting at a YMCA dance while Gene was stationed in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. After marrying, they settled into their home in Maple Shade, where she remained as a lifelong resident. She was the beloved mother of Eugene (Marianne), Colleen (Terry) Huff and Michael (Christine). Upon her children’s nuptials, she gained three children in her mind as she treated her son and daughter in-laws as they were her own. She was also the loving ‘Grammy’ of 7 grandchildren; Sean Huff, Matthew Newman, Shannon Huff, Danielle Newman, Christian Newman, Alexandra Newman and Mikey Newman.
‘Maple Shade Marie’ as her family would affectionately refer to her had a successful career running the front office of a variety of family businesses (Micro-Trap). She always enjoyed watching her Eagles, Flyers and Phillies. She mostly enjoyed spending any time she could with her family. There was never a dance competition, soccer, baseball, hockey, football, or basketball game she was not attending for her grandchildren. She would often attend multiple events in the day in the essence of fairness to make sure all of her grandkids got their special time with her. She was a beloved fixture for over 38 years at the Maple Shade Women’s Softball field cheering on the Gamblers, who her daughter, daughter in-law and granddaughters played for.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebratory mass on April 1st at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 E. Main Street, Maple Shade.
