Margaret Maurer (Peggy) 90, died peacefully at Cambridge Assisted Living in Moorestown, NJ on April 30, 2021. Peggy was born on October 19, 1930 in Philadelphia to Ethel and Patrick Hill. Due to the circumstances of a large family during the Depression era, she was raised at St Vincent's Home and then the Girl's Catholic Home, by the Sisters of St. Joseph. She went to High School at John Hallahan Girl's Catholic.
She married Paul Dischinger in 1947 and had three children, Paul William, Margaret Ann, and Bernard Joseph. She was a member of St George Catholic Church in Port Richmond (Philadelphia) where she was active in the PTA. She was a homemaker until Bernie went to school. She worked at a small local machine shop, as many of the neighborhood women did for years. Peggy met friends who became part of our family. In 1968, she moved to Tulip Street and became a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church. This is where she met wonderful neighbors, and of course added to her long list of friends. Her sister Doris was always at her side and had her back during challenging times. Our family always celebrated with Doris and Joe and their family of nine children. Peggy married Donald Maurer in 1968. They were married for 25 years, when he died while being sick for several years. She was a wonderful caregiver. She had left the machine shop jobs by that time and started her own housekeeping business. Word spread quickly that Peggy, who was a cleaning fanatic, was on the move. She of course made new friends. People could count on her, she was loyal, and always did a great job wherever she went. She never drove a car, traveling by SEPTA for the most part wherever she went. She owned many pets over her lifetime starting with turtles, fish and moving on to cats, dogs (Laddie, Shadow, Foxey) and back to cats again. She was an avid reader, enjoying the likes of Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Maeve Binchy and others. She enjoyed travel shows, especially train travel. She joined her sister Doris late in life, the two boarded a train to go West...once to see a niece, Helen who lived in Indiana with her family and once to St. Louis to see nephew, Jimmy and his family. Amtrak was never the same, we are sure! She loved nature TV shows, anything about animals, and generously supported their welfare by donating monthly. She rescued cats through Best Friends. When family did not know what to get her for a birthday or a holiday, it was often a monetary gift to feed and care for animals or Feed the Hungry through the local food bank in her name.
Peggy is survived by son, Paul (Trudy), Margaret Mikulski (Taddy, Margie) (Ronald), and Bernie (Frannie) Dischinger. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Amy, Michael, Andy, AnnMarie, Dennis, Tracey, Crystal, and nine great grands. Her other grandson, Derrick Hamm was always on hand to make her giggle and laugh. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who love "Aunt Peggy". She is predeceased by her parents Ethel and Patrick Hill, her husband Donald Maurer (1993), siblings Aloysius (Buddy), Rita Mae Frederick, Veronica (Sissy) Frederick, Charles, Edward, Mary Doris Maahs, William, Thomas and Robert (Donnie).

The family of Peggy Maurer want to thank so many who have shared her life, made her smile and brought goodness to her. She shared a beautiful smile most of the time, and was always grateful to God and people who made a difference or did the smallest thing for her. Because we were blessed to have her for 90 years, many of her family and friends are greeting her at the "gates of heaven". We thank the residents at the Maple Shade Mews who welcomed her warmly when she moved from Philadelphia to Maple Shade where there are FRIENDLY people. We are grateful to the staff who became friends at Cambridge Assisted Living, where she went to live in 2018 until she died. We thank Samaritan Hospice who supported us in Peggy's final journey in this life and prepared her for eternal life through spiritual support, stories, music, singing and smiles. We thank Father Jack Bogacz from OLGC who visited her, anointed her, fitted her for her Angel Wings. Father ministers at Cambridge Assisted Living.
This short line will say it all about our Mom, Granny, Gram, Aunt, Neighbor, Friend. "Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories." How blessed are we who had the pleasure of Peggy's company along our way. Peace and Love, God be with you, Mom.
