Josephine J. Godfrey, longtime Maple Shade resident, cherished matriarch and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2024, at the age of 95 at home with her beloved family.
Josephine was the beloved wife of the late Edward Godfrey Sr., with whom she shared a lifetime of love and memories until his passing. Together, they raised a family that was her pride and joy: Edward Godfrey Jr., Josephine Godfrey, Nancy DeAngelis and her husband Angelo, James Godfrey and his wife Kathy. She was a loving grandmother to Daniel Godfrey and his wife Gina, Eileen Rockhill and her husband Steve, Katie Santacroce and her husband Andy, Matthew Godfrey, Emily Nederostek and her husband David, Zachary DeAngelis, Benjamin DeAngelis, and Sarah DeAngelis. Josephine was also blessed to see the family grow to include her cherished great-grandchildren: Graham, Nora, Grace, Declan, Abigail, and Hailey. She held a special place in her heart for her late great-grandson, Beau.
Josephine's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a longtime dedicated member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, where she served in many capacities including Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Past President of the Altar Rosary, Past PTA President, Bereavement Counselor, and Confirmation Instructor. Her devotion to her faith was evident in every aspect of her life and inspired those around her.
In addition to her church activities, Josephine was an active member of the OLPH Seniors and the Leisure Club. She found great joy in the fellowship and community these groups provided. Her passion for family and faith was the guiding force behind her involvement and she often spoke of the deep connections she made through these organizations.
Josephine was also an incredibly talented seamstress, a skill she honed over many years. Her hands were rarely still, as she was always creating something beautiful for her family or for the many charitable causes she supported. Her handiwork was not only a hobby but a way of expressing her love and care for others.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Tuesday evening, March 12th from 6 to 8 pm at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 North Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am, Wednesday, March 13th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 East Main Street, Maple Shade.
