Josephine “Joann” Anna Collins

Josephine Anna Collins (nee Hickey) of Maple Shade passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Schmitt of Haddonfield. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles (Bud) Collins, as well as her brother Raymond Edward Schmitt. Josephine, also known as Joann, was 79 years old. She was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. She resided in southern New Jersey most of her life, except for a few years spent in Florida. She enjoyed traveling, boating, cooking, and painting. She was an avid reader. She worked most of her life at various positions. She loved all things Irish and for several years owned and operated an Irish memorabilia and embroidery shop in Merchantville called The Nutty Irishman.

She is survived by her three sons, George Schafer, Thomas Nelson and James Nelson and her siblings John Schmitt and his wife Erla, Mary Kahoe and her husband Mickey, James Schmitt and his wife Debbie, Gene Schmitt and his wife Vicky, Missy Dikter and her husband Sam, as well as her sister-in-law Barbara Schmitt and former daughter-in-law Karen Klaus. She also leaves several grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews.

At Joann’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service. Her hope was that she would be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
