John Edwin Lucas, age 82, of Maple Shade passed away on Wednesday June 24, 2020. He was a
resident of Maple Shade for over 50 years. Beloved husband of the late Jeanette Lucas, dear
father of Marguerite (Timothy) Hesser, Theodore (Jacey) Lucas and Heather Lucas, devoted
grandfather of Morgan, Wendy and Shepard, brother of Janice (Matt) Tomlin, and brother-in-law
of Robert Rominiecki also survived by many nieces and nephews.
John was born in Trenton to John E. Lucas Sr and Jean B. (Majeski). He went to Holy Cross
School. He also lived in Florida for a short time with his parents and sister Janice. The family
moved to back to New Jersey where he graduated from Wildwood Catholic High School. John
then proudly served in the Air Force from 1956-1960 as Airman 2C where he was a jet engine
mechanic at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona.
He married the love of his life Jeanette at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and started a family in
Maple Shade.
John held many jobs. He helped out at a family bar in Trenton and helped his mother Jean at her
motel, the Bel Air in Wildwood Crest. He also worked as a linotype operator for the Burlington
County Times, a printer for Regent Standard forms, driver for Superior Ink and security for
Nazareth and Metropolitan Hospitals.
He was active parishioner and served as an Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
John was a phenomenal cook, and loved to experiment with ingredients, putting together
seemingly unlikely combinations, but creating delicious dishes. He also appreciated dining out,
and trying new restaurants (and always sneaky about picking up the check). He did love his
food! He enjoyed taking drives and just exploring the roads. He also enjoyed doing his jumble
and suduko puzzles and was known as the family jokester. His greatest joy was spending time
with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, 7-9 pm and Wednesday morning 9:30-10:30 am at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Rd., Maple Shade. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 1st 11 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 E. Main Street, Maple Shade. Interment will be in the NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
