James S. Burns of Palmyra passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old. Jim was born in Philadelphia on September 1, 1945 to the late James and Molly Burns. He resided in Moorestown and Merchantville before moving to Palmyra in 1971. Jim retired from AT&T where he worked as an account manager. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim enjoyed traveling and fine wine, of which he had a vast knowledge. He was an excellent cook and always looked forward to Sunday family dinners. Jim meticulously cared for his yard, enjoyed spending time at the gym, and was an avid golfer and car enthusiast, but what made him the happiest was family, especially his wonderful grandchildren.
Beloved husband of 55 years to Carol Burns (nee Henry), loving father of Steven (Christy) Burns and Stacey (Dave) Elegino, cherished grandfather of Alice, Nathan, James and Claire, dear brother of Janine McMullen, Jennifer (Neil) Fulton, and the late Janyce McMullen, Jim also will be missed by his loving brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation with his family on Tuesday, May 30th 10am-12noon at the Mark C. Tilghman Funeral Home, 38 N. Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. An informal memorial service will follow at 12noon. Interments will be in the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's name to the Bread of Life Food Pantry in Palmyra. https://palmyranjumc.org/giving/ or via check payable to Bread of Life Food Pantry, 501 Morgan Avenue, Palmyra, NJ 08065.
