Emma Laura Sims affectionately known as Grandmom, Mom Mom, Auntie Em and Slim of Pennsauken passed away peacefully on Thursday January 30, 2025 at the age of 74. She had resided in both Maple Shade and Pennsauken for 20 years and was formerly of Cream Ridge. Born in Ashland, Alabama on February 7, 1950 to the late Melvin Sims and Mary Johnson. She was a graduate of Allentown High School in 1968, and went on to attend Trenton State College and Ocean County College. Emma worked as a cook supervisor for 15 years and later retired from both Fort Dix and Burlington Coat Factory (Security Department). She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and 5 children in addition to daily phone chats with them. Sharing advice and life lessons with them as well. She was a Pittsburgh Steelers superfan! Loved singing and dancing to Whitney Houston and other music, watching westerns ( Gunsmoke, Bonanza) crimes shows (The Closer) and movies. She also enjoyed volunteering at the church pantry, socializing with friends and neighbors, affectionate big sister jokes and stories with her only little sister Janette Vennie AKA "Ms.Vennie!"
Loving mother to the end of Alfred (Vanessa) Smith, Jr, Katrina Smith (William Kebeck), Christopher Smith (the late Jennifer Badon), Melissa Smith (Patrick Edler) and Desmond Sims, dear sister of Janette Vennie, Cherished grandmother of Christopher Smith, Abree L. Knight, Christopher G. Ojeda, Taishaun Smith, Donovan Carter, Elijah Smith, Sidney Sims and Sage Sims, proud great grandmother of Lucah Ali Smith, Jonah Ali Smith and Normandy Rose Smith, Emma will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday February 8th, 12-2 PM at The Rising Community Fellowship and Outreach Center, 750 Marne Highway, Moorestown, NJ 08057. Arrangements by the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, Maple Shade.
