Dorothy M. Johnston

Dorothy M. Johnston (nee Slocum) age 98 of Maple Shade passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Philadelphia on February 8, 1926 to the late Elwood and Madeline Slocum, and was a resident of Maple Shade for over 90 years. 

 Dot worked at Strawbridge & Clothier, Burlington County Trust and was a former secretary at Maple Shade High School. She remained very active in the community upon retirement. Dot was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Armistice Chapter #164 of the O.E.S in Maple Shade where she served as secretary for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as past county president. Dot was also a member of the Women's Club in Maple Shade and the Independent Fire Company of Maple Shade Ladies Auxiliary where she was a lifetime member.

 Beloved wife of the late Joseph Johnston who passed away in 2003, loving mother of Kathleen (Andy) Gagnon, Linda (Joseph) Gibson, Patricia (William) Graham, and Janis Johnston (Chris Dziczek), cherished grandmother of 6, and adored great grandmother of 16, dear sister of the late Harriett Johnson and the late Elwood Slocum, Dottie will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and good friends. 

 Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and visitation on Monday August 12th, 9 AM-10:45 AM at the MARK C. TILGHMAN FUNERAL HOME, 38 N. Forklanding Road, Maple Shade. Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 10:45 AM followed by her funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will be in Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill.
