Barbara J. Smith

Barbara J. Smith, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, at the age of 77. Born on August 24, 1946, in Camden, NJ, Barbara lived a life marked by selflessness and dedication to her family and community.

Barbara's journey began as the cherished daughter of her loving parents, Alfred and Catherine Boccaleri. Her heart found its match in John R. Smith, with whom she built a life filled with joy and laughter until his passing. Together, they raised a family that became Barbara's pride and joy: her son David Smith and his wife Carrie, her daughters Jacqueline Smith and Stacey White with her husband Jason. Barbara's legacy continued to flourish through her beloved grandchildren, Allison Donatucci, David Smith, Alex Smith, and Wyatt White, and her adored great-grandson, Banin Sass.

Though she was predeceased by her devoted husband, John, and her caring brother, John Boccaleri, Barbara's spirit of kinship and warmth is carried on by her sister, Hope Catarro and her husband Lou, along with many nieces and nephews who were touched by her loving presence.

Barbara's commitment to service was evident through her longstanding involvement with the Independent Fire Co. No. 1 Ladies Auxiliary, the Burlington County and NJ State Fire Ladies Auxiliary. Her dedication to these organizations reflected her deep sense of community and her desire to support those who put their lives on the line for the safety of others.

Beyond her service, Barbara found joy in life's simple pleasures. She relished trips to the casino, and cherished visits to the shore, where the tranquility of the ocean brought her peace. Her love for these moments was a testament to her ability to find happiness in every experience.

Barbara's life was a living example of love in action. She was the embodiment of selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her generosity knew no bounds, as she gave freely of her time, energy, and resources to ensure the well-being of her family and friend, her infectious laughter could light up any room.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing Sunday, December 10th from 1 to 3 pm at the Mark C. Tilghman Funeral Home, 38 North Forklanding Road, Maple Shade and again Monday from 10 to 11 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 East Main Street, Maple Shade. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the church at 11 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
