John J Pendino, born May 13, 1929 passed away suddenly and peacefully on Dec. 4, 2016 at the age of 87. John was born and raised in South Philadelphia and has resided in Moorestown NJ since 1985. John is survived by his wife Janet C Pendino along with his children Kimberly Pendino, Joni Perlman (John), Steven J Visco, Suzan J Parkinson (Andrew) and Anthony H Visco (Donna). He had 10 grandchildren, Wade, Garret, Anthony, Bronwyn, Lauren, Zachary, Patrick, Carly Ann, Julia and Nathan as well as 6 great grandchildren. John is also survived by his siblings Angela Zungolo and Michael Pendino as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was pre-deceased by both his parents, Dominic and Conchetta Pendino. John played football for the US Navy Training Center, Bainbridge, Md from 1952-1954. He went on to graduate from Temple University where he continued his football career for the Temple Owls. After graduating John went on to coach numerous City and State Championship teams for both the football and baseball teams back at Southern High School where John was an Alumni, Phys Ed Teacher and Coach in a career that spanned 35 years. In 1991, John “Hump” was inducted into Southern High School’s Athletic Dept Hall of Fame as an All-Public tackle and one of the finest lineman ever produced at Southern. He will fondly be remembered by many students and players as simply “Coach.” Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 am, Saturday, December 10th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 East Main St., Maple Shade. Viewing will be held from 7-9pm on Friday, December 9th at the Mark C. Tilghman Funeral Home 38 N. Forklanding Rd., Maple Shade and again Saturday from 10 am until time of service at the church. Interment will be private.
