James A. Reader, Sr. born September 11, 1932 of Maple Shade, NJ passed away on February 14, 2015 at Samaritan Hospice, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years old. James is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lillian A. Reader (nee Rahn) his five children, daughters Debra Reader and Christine Renteria, his three sons James (Sandra) Reader, Jr. of Mt. Laurel, Scott (Diane) Reader and Mark (Diana) Reader both of Maple Shade; 12 grandchildren; Robert Anzidei, Ryan Reader, Kristina Marie (Bowen), Megan Reader, Jaclyn Reader, Sean Reader, Alexis Reader, Samantha Reader, Taylor Reader, Matthew Reader and Devin Reader; and 2 great-grandchildren Daulton Reader and Ava Reader. Also survived by his brother Edward (Elaine) Reader, their children, Missy (Lee) Perry, Alison (Charles) Johnson and their families, cousins Sandra (Bryan) Recla, Cathy Hart and also many loving nieces and nephews. James graduated from Camden Catholic High School in June 1951 and left for his tour of duty with the US Navy in August 1951. He served on the oil tanker USS Canisteo during the Korean war, fueling ships at sea. He was presented with the Service Medal of Honor by Senator Diane Allen. James was a self-employed general contractor for 45 years. He and his wife enjoyed participating in a bowling league, a dance club and loved skiing. His favorite activity was fishing on his boat at LBI. James was an avid Eagles fan. He was an active volunteer in Maple Shade Youth Sports programs, coaching both little league baseball and football. He was a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Maple Shade, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Minister to the Homebound and taught for the Parish Religious Education program. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was dearly loved by family and friends and will be deeply missed. His funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday February 19, 2015 12 noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 236 E. Main St., Maple Shade, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing 10-12 noon at the church.
